Ambition
Ambition. It’s a word that many people use to describe their dreams and hopes. Ambitions vary – some may be huge and full of success and riches, while others are simple and less hassle to live up to. But regardless of what type of ambition it is; it produces the same amount of happiness when it’s achieved. As the gallant 5th Doctor in Doctor Who once said: “for some people small, beautiful events are what life is all about” even if it is just “hav[ing] the pleasure of smelling a flower, watching a sunset” or “eating a well-prepared meal.”
What is your ambition?
Some people live in uncertainty of what they want to do; weaving their lives together as they go, but even then they can get somewhere. But nevertheless, ambition is truly beneficial. When one has an ambition, they strive to make it come to life; they know what they need to do in order to reach their goals. Don’t forget the feeling of achievement, too. When you set yourself a target and reach it, the feeling of accomplishment is tremendous and it motivates you to move forward proudly and with faith within yourself.
What is your ambition?
Do you have an ambition already? Is there something preventing you from accomplishing it? Is it too much? Some personal advice to you: Never give up. Ugh. How cliché. It is a cliché. No doubt. But does this mean that it has no meaning anymore? Even if it’s been worn out and used so many times, its meaning still stands. Don’t lose all your faith in yourself. If you are, take a minute to read about someone you have, at the least, heard about - if not adore - for her absolute mind blowing talent and motivation. The woman behind the making of one of the most celebrated book series in the world: J.K Rowling. Do you think that her world- famous novel “Harry Potter” came naturally to her? No stress? No hassle? In fact, it was no walk in the park. She was in a distressing position and the way the tables were turned, it seemed inevitable to her that her so dearly loved masterpiece would never be read or heard of. At the time of writing Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1994, she had just gotten divorced and had to seek governmental help to support her baby. She was so poor that she wasn’t even able to buy herself a computer or a printer. Therefore, she had to manually type out each version of her novel to each publishing agency. Things didn’t get any better any time soon. It was rejected several times until Bloomsbury’s decided to give it a second chance, due to the CEO’s eight year old daughter falling in love with the book. Chances are, we would never have had the privilege to fall in love with such a wonderfully crafted world of magic if this little girl hadn’t done so in the first place.
Even those with the most remarkable minds don’t get far without ambition. Ambition is what makes you realise all the potential you have in yourself and what you could do to with the talents you possess. Salvador Dali, an inspirational surrealist artist believed that: “intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.”
Think for a minute about what you’re exceptionally talented at and what opportunities are out there that could fully satisfy you; whether it’s a job that will provide you well or just something that will bring you happiness by just enjoying and cherishing. Take that and make that an ambition, because in the end, it’s what will bring you the contentment that will wake you up every morning.
So, don’t give in. You will find the little girl of your ambitions. Or if you’re lucky, you won’t need to withstand the initial disastrous anchor dragging you down and will get to your destination in ease. But, nonetheless, ambition is what makes the human race strive, become successful and, most importantly of all, spread joy and true happiness. Be the optimist. Like the charismatic 11th Doctor said in Doctor Who: “I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far-flung hopes and the dreamer of improbable dreams.” No hope is too far flung and no dream is too improbable. Have an ambition and don’t be afraid to stick to it.
